Postmodernists feel there is no longer one single culture. Marxists do not feel society is meritocratic. Action theory says we can reject socialisation. Feminists say gender roles are unnatural and harmful

Traditions give men higher status and power (however postmodernist feminists suggest not all females are oppressed) and socialisation teaches patriarchy as the norm.

Stereotypes can change our view of ourselves, leading to a self fulfilling prophecy (however evaluate that some many have more freedom to reject socialisation than others)
