-idea that texts communicate their meaning through signs and codes, that are embedded for audience to decode

-Genre is an industrial process
- Audiences need repetition and difference
Jean Baudrillard- postmodernism
-idea that the postmodern boundaries between the “real” world and the media created world have collapsed and it’s no longer possible to distinguish reality and simulation
Stuart Hall-Representation theory
-idea that representation is the production of language through signs
-stereotyping as a form of representation, reduces people to a few traits/characteristics
David Gauntlett-Theories of Identity
-the idea that the media provides us with “tools” or recourses to construct our identities
Van Zoonen- Feminist theory
-idea that gender is constructed through discourse, and it’s meaning varies according to historical and cultural contexts
-idea women’s body’s are seen as objects while men’s are seen as a ‘spectacle’
