1) entertainment/escape - sometimes called diversion, idea that we are bored, time killer, escape from boring life, makes us laugh
2) education/information - could be fiction products eg crime drama, hand eye coordination from a video game
3) social interaction/personal relationships - games online, building personal relationships with people
4) identification - anything audeince can relate too “ive been through something like that”

A

suggestion that there are different ways audiences can view the media messages put forward by the producer

3 times:
Dominant/Preferred Reading - The audience accept and agree with messages put forward

Negotiated Reading - audience agree with some part or are opposed to other parts

Oppositional Reading - audience rejects message that are trying to be conveyed and do not agree with them
