A

Keeps us reading - will he be redeemed or won’t he? Adds dramatic tension

Social commentary - Dickens shows that even the worst can find redemption

A

His past - wasn’t always mean

Relationships - capable of love with Fan and Belle

Parallels - his father changes “is so much kinder than he used to be”

Marley - he actively tries to help which gives Scrooge hope as they are similar

A

His behaviour towards others
The visions the spirits show him (not forced)
His own free will
Learns empathy & emotions (e.g. pity, regret, fun, terrfied by indifference to him once dead)
