Q

Beliefs about punishment

  • Corporal punishment
  • Death penalty (capital punishment)
  • Forgiveness, compassion and understanding
  • Prison
  • Community service
A
  • Punishment allows for retribution - justice and revenge.
  • Punishment allows for deterrence - individuals in society won’t commit crimes when they see ppl being punished for them.
  • Punishment allows for reformation - individuals’ lives can be improved when they learn from their mistakes through punishment.
  • FORGIVENESS ‘‘Forgive one another as God in Christ forgave you’’
  • Demonstrate compassion - just as God, described in the Qu’ran is ‘‘Kind and Merciful’’

^^though we do not necessarily have to agree.

People may argue there are also other forms of punishment eg community service and prison sentencing.
