Intentional killing of another human
Adultery
To be unfaithful to a spouse

To steal something that does not belong to you

To damage public property
Retribution
Something done to get back at someone or an act of punishment so actions (fines, community service)
Protection
Protect society from the criminal and the criminal from themselves (prison, electronic tagging, capital punishment)
Vindication
The punishment makes sure that the law is respected (probation)
Reformation
Punishment should reform the criminal (prison,community service, probation)
Deterrence
Put people off committing crime (prison, electronic tagging, capital punishment)
Reparation
Compensate the victims of a crime (fines)
Causes of crime
Social (no education, no parental influence, drug and alcohol), environmental (high unemployment, peer pressure), psychological (selfish and greedy)
Uk law
Civil - problems between individuals or groups, dealt with in small claims or high court
Criminal - breaking state law and involving the police, dealt in crown court with a judge and jury
Types of crime
State - terrorism, selling secrets, tax fraud
Property - dishonesty, vandalism or arson
Person - murder, rape, assault, slander or neglect
Capital punishment
For: retribution, deterrence, protection, finance
Against: mistakes, protection, deterrence, reformation, right
Prison
For: protect society, isolate criminals, stop reoffending, act of deterrent, chance to reflect and reform
Against: taught other crimes by inmates, bitterness and resentment, doe not reform, difficult to get a job, kept from family, relationships break down
