- the benefits is that the couple are able to seek advice from relatives as they have more experience from their families - negatives: the couple and family will lack privacy and some people may find it stressful

What is the Sex Discrimination act? (1975)
- made gender discrimination illegal, however it still happens to this day. - women get paid less than men on average -men hold a higher proportion of senior positions

Examples of Gender discrimination in Britain?
- women being asked unfair questions in interviews (kids) - sexual harrasment in the work place - top women earning less than top men in sport

Why might couples want to cohabit?
- due to financial reasons, expensive to get married today - want to test and see whether the relationship will work and because divorce also requires money
