Theme 4A Flashcards
1
Q
What was Mendel’s hypotheses?
A
- Each individual carries a pair of factors.
- A pair consist of different alleles, one dominant over the other.
- When gametes are created, the alleles segregate.
2
Q
What is testcrosses?
A
You cross a dominant trait individual with a homozygous recessive. If the offspring ratio is 1:1, then the unknown genotype is heterozygous. If it is all dominant for offspring, then it is homozygous dominant.
3
Q
When there is blending inheritance between alleles, what is this called?
A
Incomplete dominance.
4
Q
When both alleles are completely expressed in an individual, what is this called?
A
Co-dominance.
5
Q
How many rounds of random mating is needed for a population not in HWE to reach HWE?
A
1
6
Q
Can speciation only be observed over millions of years?
A
No.
