Theme 2 - The Natural Environment Flashcards
1
Q
Characteristics of Strato volcanoes
A
More acidic. Strato volcanoes are deadlier. Erupt infrequently. They are steeper. They erupt with a lot of built-up pressure, in mountainous regions.
Lava dries quickly and is less viscous (more runny)
Ash clouds and lava settle in layers.
1
Q
What are two types of volcanoes?
A
Strato volcanoes and shield volcanoes
2
Q
Characteristics of shield volcanoes
A
More basic. Less deadly. Doesn’t erupt with large build-up of pressure. Erupts frequently. Lava is viscous. Much flatter and not steep.
3
Q
Where strato volcanoes are formed
A
At destructive (converging) plate boundaries.
