What are some factors affecting population change?

A

Healthcare- longer life expectancy
Marriage- people are starting marriages much later
Ageing population- with more and more people going past their child bearing age it reduces the amount of babies born
cost of raising a family- cost of living has increased
maternity pay- longer period may encourage more people
contraception- widely available
migration- both in and out of UK
Vaccination programmes- lowers death rates

What are some challenges faced when building on greenfield sites?

A

Environmental sustainability- destruction of rural land and risk of urban sprawl
Economic sustainability- Cost of new houses may be too high for local residents, high proportion is likely to leave and commute to work leaving the town empty
Social sustainability- The need of local services will need to be introduced

A
