Theme 1 Flashcards
Introduction to Anatomy
What are the layers of the skin?
Epidermis: Keratinised stratified squamous epitelium
Dermis: Connective tissue (collagen & elastic fibres) containing adipose tissue and blood & nerve supply
Fascia: containing collagen & elastic connective tissue
Superficial Fascia
- What does it contain?
- What are its functions?
- Fat alongside disorganized collagen & Elastic fibers, blood vessels and nerves
- Fat storage
- Blood & Nerve supply
- Thermal insulation
- Protection for underlying structures
What is the function of Deep Fascia? What is different between deep and superficial fascia?
Form sheaths - containing blood vessels & nerves
Attachment for some muscles
Facilitates muscle movement
Deep fascia has collagen fibers which are more organized and run in parallel
