- theft leads to disorder & cardinal virtue of justice would condemn any act of stealing
- ‘when in some imminent danger & no other possible remedy… lawful for man to succour his own need by means of another’s property’ means its permissible if there’s no other alternative & imminent risk to individual
- example: in first term of uni & told you need a specialist textbook thats £90 but don’t have any money. for aquinas it wouldn’t be lawful to steal as you won’t die if you fail & proportionalist wouldn’t allow it as it is selfish to others

- love insists love should be justice distributed so for an action to be just the end result must not take love from others
