front of house
every part of the theater in front of the proscenium arch, including foyer.
green room
room closest to state for the actors to meet and relax
in-the-round
a form of audience seating layout where the acting area is enclosed on all sides by the seating.
offstage
1) a movement towards the nearest side of the stage from the center
2) the area out of sight from the audience
proscenium arch
the opening in the wall which stands between stage and auditorium in some theaters; the picture from through which the audience sees the play. Older theaters may have ornate arches to stand out, show kept inside arch
raked stage
a sloping stage which is raised at the upstage end. All theaters used to be built with a raked stage, but today the stage is often flat and the auditorium is raked.
tabs
tableaux curtains, which drew outwards and upwards, but more frequently refers to any stage curtains, especially a pair of horizontally moving curtains that overlap in the center and move outwards from that centre.
tech rehearsal
usually the first time the show is rehearsed in the venue with lighting, scenery, sound, and some complex costumes. Dry tech is without actors, wet tech is with actors.
upstage
1) part of stage furthest from audience
2) movement further from audience
3) an actor drawing more attention to themself rather than the important characters in that moment
wings
1) out of view areas to the sides of acting area
2) scenery standing where teh acting area joins technical areas
