What is the working memory model?
An expansion of the MSM. It suggests a system involving active processing (not passive) and replaces the idea of a unitary STM.
What is the central executive?
The most important part of the WMM. Drives the WMM, controls and monitors the slave systems. No storage capacity
What is the episodic buffer?
Limited capacity temporary storage for visual and acoustic info.
Integrates info from all other parts
What is the phonological loop?
Limited capacity temporary storage for verbal information. Two parts: 1. primary store (inner ear, 1-2 seconds)
2. Auditory control process. Verbal info, inner voice
What is the visuospacial sketchpad?
Limited capacity temporary storage for visual and spacial information. You use it when planning a spacial task e.g walking home
