Q

What did baddeleys dual task expedient include?

A

Participants being split into two groups

  • all participants has to do a task where they had to follow a moving spot light (USE OF VISIO SPATIAL SKETCH PAD)
  • then in task two one group had to to describe the angles on a letter whilst watching the light
  • the other had to do a verbal task whilst watching the light

Q

Results of baddeleys dual task study?

A

Participants made more errors when both tasks involved using the visual processing compared to the other participants that had one verbal + one visual

Q

Conclusion of Baddeleys dual task study?

A

Participant did much better when using separate stores, supporting the idea that there is a separate system for sorting and processing visual information

Q

What was the aim and method of the world length effect study?

A

Aim-to investigate whether short term verbal memory uses an Articulatory system based on rehearsing

Method

  • participants were given a list of long and short words and their memory of these words was immediately tested and had to be recalled in order
  • number of recalled words was then compared

Q

Results and conclusion of the word length effect study?

A

More words were recalled if they were shorter

Conc- Baddeley argues this effects is seen as when trying to remember words we rehearse them using our inner voice. This is limited by the length of time it takes to say the words,so the longer words will begin to decay before we have finished rehearsing them

Q

What study provides Evidence that the Articulatory control process and acoustic store are separate ?

A

Paulesu et al (1993)

Aimed to investigate where the Articulatory control process and acoustic stores are located in different areas of the Brian

Q

What method did Paulesu et al use?

A

Participants had their Brian’s scanned whilst either storing letters OR judging if two letters rymed

-he used positron emission tomography that in lives injecting participant with musky radioactive glucose as it allowed the active areas to show clearly

Q

What were the results of the Paulesu et al study?

A

When using the Articulatory control process the borcas area of the brain was active, whilst when storing letters using acoustic store another area was active

SHOWING DIFFERENT AREAS OF THE BRAIN ARE INVOLVED IN THE DIFFERENT COMPONENTS OF THE PHONOLOGICAL LOOP
