The Working Memory Model Flashcards
1
Q
What is the Working Memory Model?
A
- The working memory model is a cognitive framework that describes how we temporarily hold and manipulate information.
2
Q
Does the working memory model focus on long term or short term memory?
A
- Short term memory
3
Q
What is the role of the ‘Central Executive’?
A
- It is the control system, it manages attention and co-ordinates the activities of the other components.
4
Q
What is the role of the phonological loop?
A
- Deals specifically with verbal and auditory information. It consists of two parts: ‘phonological store’ and the articulatory rehearsal system.
5
Q
Describe what the ’Phonological Store’ is?
A
- This hold sounds and spoken words for a short duration/ retains auditory information that we hear.
6
Q
What is the Articulatory Rehearsal system?
A
- Allows us to repeat or rehearse information stored from the phonological store, it is referred to as ‘inner voice’
7
Q
What is the episodic Buffer.
A
- The EB integrates information from the phonological loop and visuospatial sketchpad with long term memory. It allows us to form understanding
8
Q
What is the visuospatial sketch pad.
A
- Processes visual and spatial information, helping us to navigate our environment and visualize objects.
