Basic Summary of the Two Parties.
A
Loose groups of people that had originally developed out of the struggle between crown and the parliament in the civil war of the 17th century.

What are the similarities between the two parties?
A
- Both are dominated by land owning families, and these families histories often determined which party they were going to be in.
- Both parties were led by Anglicans.
- There were more similarities than differences between the two parties.

What were the differences between the two parties?
A
- Tories defended the monarch and the CofE. Whigs were more likely to question the power of the monarch and defend the power of parliament.
- Nearly all Tories were landowners whereas less of a proportion of them were Whigs.
- Tories didn’t want too much change however the Whigs were much more reformist.
