What is the Welfare State?
A system created by the government to protect the health and wellbeing of its individuals, especially those in social or financial need

What was the Poor Law 1834?
When the cost of looking after poor people was introduced, in which they had to go to a workhouse to get money
Why was the Poor Law 1834 put in place?
Criticism – by 1830 it had cost approximately £7 million to fund the poor law which began in 1815
What were Liberal Reforms in Early 1900s?
Series of acts of social legislation passed by the government to help reduce poverty
Give 3 things that were introduced due to Liberal Reforms
1) Pensions
2) National Insurance
3) Free School Meals
What was the Beveridge Report 1942?
A report created by William Beveridge which identified five issues that needed to be tackled to make a better Britain

What is the NHS and Community Care Act 1990?
When any adult (aged 18 or over) who is eligible for and requires services has the right to a full assessment of their needs and the services provided should be individually tailored to meet those assessed needs
What is the Care Act 2014?
When the local authorities determine who is eligible for publicly funded care and support
What is the Children and Families Act 2014?
Introduces more rights to children and families to improve their care and quality of life
