What is the purpose of residential care homes?
To allow elderly people to live as comfortably and independently as possible
What is the purpose of residential schools?
To provide extra support to children who are disabled and/or have special educational needs
What is supported accommodation?
Care services and a housing scheme integrated as a package
Who is supported accommodation aimed at?
Elders and young people
What is a hostel?
Temporary accommodation for homeless people
What do hostels provide?
Basic necessities such as a bed, food and shared bathroom
What is a hospice?
A home providing palliative care for the sick or terminally ill
What is domiciliary care?
The care an elder receives in their own home
What is the purpose of domiciliary care?
To provide elderly people with the care and support they need as they cannot do the daily / regular things they used to e.g. eat, get dressed, go to the toilet
What is day care?
Daytime care for people who cannot be fully independent
What is the purpose of day care?
To stimulate individuals into communicating and interacting with others
What is a personal assistant?
Someone directly employed by a service user to take care of them during most hours of the day
Who are personal assistants aimed at?
Elderly people or those with a physical condition, learning disability or mental health problem
What is the role of a nurse?
To prevent illness and take care of ill, dying or disabled people
What is the role of a triarch nurse?
To assess an individuals needs for immediate care
What is the role of the CQC?
To inspect, monitor and regulate healthcare services to ensure they meet the fundamental standards of quality and safety
