The Water Cylce Flashcards
Evaporation
a type of vaporisation which occurs on the surface of a liquid while it changes to its gaseous state
Condensation
the change of the physical state of matter from the gas to phase to the liquid phase the opposite of vaporisation.
Precipitation
the product of the condensation of the water vapour in the atmosphere that falls due to gravity. (EX: rain, snow, hail, sleet)
Sublimation
the transition of substance directly changing from a solid to a gas phase without changing into a liquid phase
Transpiration
The process of water movement through a plant and its evaporation from aerial parts (stems, leaves, flowers)
Percolation
the process of a liquid slowly being filtered through porous materials. (EX: in the water cycle the groundwater is slowly being filtered through rocks, dirt, etc)
Run Off
Water from rain, snowmelt, or any other sources which flows over the land surface. (EX: when the snowfall on the mountains melt, it flows down the mountain and on the land surface into bodies of water.
Water Reservoirs
spaces that stores liquids (water). Refers to an enlarged natural or artificial lake, storage pond, or impoundment that is created by using a dam or lock to store water.
