The Water Cycle Pt. 2 Flashcards
Where is the water level located in an aquifer?
level underground when you first hit water
recharge
the flow of water into an aquifer. rates vary from 100-1000years or a # of days.
If in aquifer is composed of sand, gravel or various types of rock (sandstone, shale, basalt) where is the water stored?
In the pores, fissures, cracks. between rocks and soil sediments
Which kind of aquifers would you expect to have a fast recharge?
Those made up of boulder so big rocks because it is easier for water to move between them
Which kind of aquifers would you expect to have a slow recharge?
Those made up of sand, because the spaces for water to move is much smaller
Unconfined aquifers
ground water and surface water can interact
confined aquifer
one that is isolated by an impermeable layer of material such as clay
