The Water Cycle Flashcards
What is the water cycle
The water cycle is the complete journey that water makes in life. From one place to the other and from one state to the other.
Draw the water cycle on my whiteboard.
Evaporation, transpiration, condensation , precipitation, Runoff and infiltration.
What is another name for the water cycle
The hydrological cycle
The closed system
Evaporation-stage 1
The process by which water is changed into water vapour.
How It Happens:
Water is heated usually by the sun beginning the process.
Transpiration- stage 2
The process by which the water absorbed by plants passes into the atmosphere from the plant surface, mainly from the leaves.
Condensation- stage 3
The changing of water vapour into droplets of liquid water in the form of clouds, dew or fog.
Precipitation-stage 4
Any or all of the forms of water whether liquid or solid that fall from clouds and reach the ground.
Examples: hail, snow, rain
Infiltration- stage 5
The movement of water from the land surface into the soil.
Run off- stage 5/6
The movement of surface water down slopes.
