- American defeat them at Johnson 25 October

- February 1780 siege of Charleston by 7.6k under Clinton after delays due to weather
- Lincoln surrendered 12 May with Britian taking 5k American prisoners, 343 artillery peices, 6k muskets and 346 barrels of gunpowder
- worst American loss of the whole war !!
- Brits moved into South Carolina with Colonel Tarleton butchering Americans refusing to take prisoners and harsh treatment

What happens in Georgia ?

- Late 1778 Clinton sent Lieutenant Cornell Campbell+3k men to Georgia
- December he captured Savannah loosing 3 men but taking 500 Americans
- Campbell prohibited troops threatening Georgians as he recognised the importance of winning local population- many joined loyalist militia
- March 1779 British defeat Patriots at Briar Creek Am lost 400 men and 450 went home
- British control seemed precarious as half of the 4k white males were loyal and other half patriots
- Joint Franco-American siege failed in October 1779 causing 1500 loss of Am and French

- 1777 Indian attacks left only 3 forts under American control in Kentucky
- Colonel Hamilton (Brit) encouraged Indians by offering to buy patriots scalps
- 1778 Clark (Am) had taken old French settlements of Buskaskia amongst others
- December 1778 Hamilton had less went back to Vincennes and after 320km March Clark captured Hamiltonian and Vincennes in February 1779
- 1789 Brit campaign at Clark’s control of Illinois and Kentucky as well as Spanish Mississippi
- Captain Hesse’s 1k men failed to capture St Louis whilst Colonel Bird withdrew as he lost control of his Native American forces
- 1780, August Clark’s 1000 men defeated Indians at Piqan
