Q

Was this economic warefare new ?

A

No, it follows a ten year boycott of British goods that invoked far more colonists than the political protest or military
- it could be argued that many were therefore prepared to wage war after participating in the non violent economic boycott of imported British goods

Q

What did these measures show ?

A

A belief that increased pressshre could bring about a settlement and indicated the colonists were not seeking independence
However to enforce such measures there would need to be effective government independent of Britian
- the trade embargoes displayed initial elements of self governance
