What are the steps of the computing process?
1: provide input

What is the system unit?
Where are all of your storage and all of your processing is done
What is inside the system unit?
Motherboard, CPU, RAM, hard drive, optical & network connections, power input.
What are peripherals?
They provide input or output for the computer.
What are examples of output peripherals?
Monitor, speakers, printer.
What are examples of input peripherals?
Keyboard, mouse, trackpad, scanner.
What is the technical name for a two speaker and subwoofer system? 5 speakers and subwoofer?
A 2.1 system and 5.1 system
What does USB stand for?
Universal serial bus
What is ethernet?
Helps connect computers to a network.
What are the ports on the back of the system unit called?
Connectors
What is an External Sata? Or ESATA?
An external interface that competes with FireWire and usb, to provide fast data transfer speeds for external storage devices.
What is a S/PDIF?
Sony Philips digital interface. Used for audio, typically fiber-optic.
What is a DVI?
Digital visual interface or, the primary video output.
What is HDMI?
High definition multimedia interface. Carries audio and video output.
What is a mini RCA jack?
Mainly used for audio input and output. Output for computer speakers only.
What are the types of RCA inputs for the system unit?
Line in, front speakers, microphone, side speakers, rear speakers, and subwoofer.
What is the difference between front and rear panel connections?
Front panels are mainly for convenience.
What is FireWire?
A connector similar to usb, mainly used for video cameras.
What was a mini D I N? And what was it connected to?
A round connector on an older motherboard. Connected with PS2 cables, for keyboards and mice.
What are D sub connectors?
Older motherboard input output connections that are essentially D shaped.
What is a serial port?
An old motherboard input output connection, green, nine pin, male DB connector. Used for mice and printers.
What is a parallel port?
Red, 25 pin female sub connector, mainly used for printers.
What is a VGA connector?
An old motherboard connector, d sub with three rows of five female pins. For monitors and projectors.
What does the power supply do?
Gives power to the computer. 5 V or 12 V DC current.
What is the motherboard?
The main board of a computer, usually containing the circuitry for the central processing unit, keyboard, and monitor and often having slots for accepting additional circuitry.
What does ESATA stand for?
External serial advanced technology attachment
