What does BIOS stand for?
Basic input output service
What is BIOS?
Programming built into the motherboard itself that allows you to speak to the pieces of hardware for your computer. Stored on a read only memory chip.
What is the CMOS?
Stores small changeable memory
What does POST stand for?
Power on self test
What does the POST do?
Checks to make sure everything is working when your computer turns on.
What is the system setup or CMOS?
Stores the changeable aspects of BIOS.
What are the 3 parts of BIOS?
System bios (stored on a rom chip), power on self test, and system setup?
What happens when you turn on the computer?
The power supply gives power to all of the components of the computer
What is the power-good wire?
A wire that runs from the power supply to the cpu, getting the cup started when a certain number of volts is reached.
When are beep codes used?
Used during post before video is tested or for when there is no video output. Or when your computer doesn’t see any RAM
What do you use when you power on your computer but nothing happens?
A POST card
What does a post card do?
Outputs a 2 digit code read out.
Who are the three makers of bios?
Phoenix, award, American mega trends.
What two passwords can be set up in the system set up?
User and supervisor
When does the supervisor password come up?
any time someone tries to get into the system setup
