What was the Domino Theory?
President Eisenhower thought the USSR and China where planning to takeover Asia, this was known as the Domino Theory.
They were concerned about it Vietnam went communist so might Laos, Cambodia, Burma, Thailand and maybe India.
They were determined to resist the spread of communism in Vietnam which they saw as the first domino to go in the row.
What were the tactics used by the Viet Cong?
- Guerrilla Warfare
- Tunnel Complexes
- Booby Traps
- Ambushes and avoiding American airstrikes
- Working with Vietnamese Civilians
What were the Guerrilla Warfare tactics?
The Vietcong could not match the technology and the weapons and had to use Guerrilla tactics.
The principles of GW:
‘Retreat when the enemy attacks; raid enemy camps; attack when the enemy tires; pursue when enemy retreats’
They had no uniforms, no base or headquarters, work in small groups, limited weapons
