- the idea that when you come to America your first loyalty is to the United States, You cannot hold more than one passport, known as “Assimilation”

- the policy of multiculturalism, you can keep your entire identity, you don’t have to assimilate, you can keep your traditions as long as you are willing to abide by the laws of the country
