The Uk’s Evolving Physical Landscape Flashcards
What are igneous rocks?
Igneous rocks are formed from lava and magma that was once molten, then cooled, then crystallised.
What are sedimentary rocks?
Sedimentary rocks are formed from sediments that were once deposited or eroded by rivers and seas.
What are metamorphic rocks?
Metamorphic rocks are formed by sedimentary rocks that were heated and compressed during igneous activity making them change physical form.
How does the geology differ across the UK’s landscape?
Areas in the north and west consist of harder rock types which are harder to erode, whereas areas in the south and east consist of softer rock which is eroded easily. Upland areas in the north contain more igneous and metamorphic rock which are resistant and lowland areas are seen to be more sedimentary based.
