What did events in Greece change US policy ?
Truman was informed in 1947 that Britain could no longer afford to keep troops in Greece, therefore in order to stop Greece from becoming under the influence of Stalin USA paid for the troops to stay in Greece
What was the Truman doctrine ?
In a speech in march 1947 Truman made it clear that USA would support any country under threat from communism
What was Marshall Aid ?
Truman believed countries in poverty and hardship were breeding grounds for communism, Therefore he provided billions of dollars to wrecked economies in Europe. Between 1948-52 the USA gave $12.7 billion to west Europe
What was the soviet response to the Truman doctrine ?
Stalin thought the USA was trying to extend it’s influence in Europe, he said the MP was a way to divide Europe in two. He called it dollar imperialism
What impact did the Truman Doctrine have on international relations after 1947 ?
The USA was now in direct opposition to the USSR. Stalins suspicion of the west was now reinforced. Europe was now divided into 2 economic and political camps

It was set up in response to the Truman Doctrine, It was a political organisation including USSR, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Poland. It directed and controlled the satellite states and made sure they took orders from Moscow
