What was the Truman Doctrine?
-was the name given to the US foreign policy which gave support for governments fighting for freedom against communist takeover

What did the Policy of Containment prevent the spread of?

Who did the Marshall Aid benefit?
-benefitted American trade as well as supporting the emerging economies of Europe which had been badly damaged by war
Who was offered the Marshall Aid?
-the USSR along with the Western Zones of Germany
Who refused to accept the Marshall Aid and what was a result of this?
-the USSR->was further weakened economically whilst the Allied zones benefitted
What was the disguised benefit of the Marshall Aid?
-they are stopping communism due to offering money knowing the USSR wouldn’t accept so therefore weakened them
What did Truman believe and what did it lead to?
-believed that where there was poverty there was potential for communist expansion->America poured money into the European economy through the Marshall Plan or Aid
What impact would the Truman Doctrine and Marshall Aid have on relations between the USSR and the Western zones?
-further divide due to the Western zones
-USSR didn’t want to accept help
When did the American and British zones combine and what was their new zone called?
-the American and British zones were combined to form Bizonia/the Bizone at the start of 1947
When did the French zone join the Bizone and what did it create, when?
-The French zone joined America and Britain in the Bizone creating Trizonia/the Trizone in 1948
