6 facts about the trenches
A
Fire step Allowed soldiers to step up to be able to fire their
rifles.
Periscope Used to find out about the enemy and their
movements
Barbed wire Protection. This made it difficult to reach the trench.
The enemy would have to cut through this.
Dug Out Protective holes dug in the side of the trench. Could
house up to 10 men.
Duck Board Placed at bottom of trench to keep soldiers feet out
of the mud.
Sandbags offered protection from artillery.
