history of 3 levels of warfare
outlined in 19th country especially after:
Napoleonic war, US civil war, Franco-Prussian war
Definition?
they are the lines of action that an actor will display throughout a conflict
Hierarchical way of division?
No hierarchical relation between the three levels, just a structure from general to more specific = equally important
What are the 3 levels?
Strategy, operational, tactics & logistics
Strategy
Where “Victory is evolved” & the political side of the conflict
- Highest rank
Strategy x2
the correct strategy determines if you Winn or loose
Strategy x3 - key element
Key element of planning; takes into consideration the final result, Human Resources, logistics, and how to orgenize
Strategy - example Spain
Why is Spain interested in the Mediterranean?

o Because the Mediterranean is a security threat, but also a good position to keep
operational x2

operational, example Russia
Russian army operational planning, is based on air bombings. allepo capitulated after 3 hours of bombings.
Operational
takes place on the battle field

Tactics - Battle
set of related engagements that last longer and involve larger number of troops than an engagement
- conventional warfare are more prone to battle
Tactics - engagement
tactical conflict that lasts only a short time and takes place between forces under brigade level
are shorter interactions between the actors (limited in time and participants)
- More used in asymmetrical conflicts
logistics
