The Theory Of Planned Behaviour Flashcards

1
Q

What does the theory of planned behaviour suggest? (Intro)

A
  • TPB suggests our bhv can be predicted from our intentions
  • it describes how 3 interacting components/beliefs such as attitudes, subjective norms and control can influence intentions and bhv change
  • all 3 need to be present to influence an indvs intentions to stop add, if not then therapy will not be offered
  • TPB can be used to predict if therapy will be effective or not

A
  • most important part of model as w out control a person is still vulnerable to add
  • indvs intention is influenced by how much control indv feels they have over own bhv and ability to change
  • this is based on int factors e.g. how determined they are, ext factors e.g. support from other ppl and past experience e.g. if they have successfully given up before
