What was the role of the Gauleiter?
Regional party bosses who were very influential in determining how Germans experienced Nazi rule.
What was the role of the Blockleiter?
Too listen and keep an eye on those in the community so they could report back to the Gauleiter. It could be anyone.
Who was Heinrich Himmler?
Leader of the SS from 1929 onwards.
What did Hitler do in June 1936?
Unifies all of the different SS groups under Himmler.
Who were the Gestapo?
The secret police.
What was the Gestapo’s greatest weapon?
Fear - there weren’t actually as many people in the Gestapo as supposed.
Were the Gestapo controlled by the law?
No - from 1936 onwards they were given unlimited power.
When were the SA founded?
4th November 1921.
In 1929, how many members of the SA were there?
30,000 members.
In 1934, how many members of the SA were there?
3,000,000 members.
Who was suspicious of the SA?
The German Army.
What significant night did the SA order?
The Night of the Long Knives.
What were the five main forms of propaganda?
Press, Radio, Film, Photographs and Posters.
What did the Nazi party do to ensure the public listened to the radio?
Gave every family a short-wave radio. Public radio broad casts. Made listening during the day compulsory.

100,000.

4,000,000.
Who were the Edelweiss Pirates?
A group of rebels who beat up patrolling Hitler youths.
Who were the Swing Youth?
Non-political jazz and swing youth who listened to jazz/swing music in their spare time as an act of rebellion.
What was the White Rose Movement?
Non-violent students fro Munich University. Distributed anti-Nazi letters.
