Q

what was the second major term?

A

germany had to pay billions in reperations towards the counties who had suffered, therefore they had nothing left to even bother to try and rebuild the economy, and land that was detroyed during ww1. this would greatly effect germany in the long term of things because when the great depression hit globally in 1929-1933..america expected money back from germany because they had tried to help germany rebuild buy they had nothing left which lef america unhappy and comprimised trade.

Q

what was the third major term?

A

following the creation of article 231, germany had to take full responsibilty for the cause and damage made in ww1, which left them completely humialited by other countries which fully damaged the german reputation.

from sources given in the exam, we can see that germany really had no say weather to accept the article or not.. it was pretty much forced upon them as there were about 3 or 4 german representatives compared to hundreds of britain/french and americans.(intimmidated)

Q

how did germany feel about the overall terms of the treaty?

A

germany were furious.. they felt that they had been treated so unfairly and were humiliated globally, as it was evident that it was not only germanys fault for the cause and destrcution of ww1, therefore it was sat at the back of their minds to seek revenge on the opressive countries when they were stable enough to do so..which hitler begins to do when he takes power of germany.

Q

what was the reaction of the german people to the treaty of versailles?

A

there were physical riots/protests in the german reichstag(parliament) and out on the streets. it wasnt hard to see why they were outraged because they had lost 10 percent of land, 12.5 percent of its population, 16 percent of its coal, and 48 percent of its iron industry.

the german people also didnt feel safe as there were disruptions all over the place and mass unemployment, plus they didnt feel there was a leader suitable enough to get them out of the tough situation.

which is why hitler was accepted so easily because he was very persuasive and strong.
