Temple
The vihara, Buddhist holy place and heart of community.
Meditation hall
Where they praise and meditate to 3 shrines in a quiet place which reminds them of their focus to reach enlightenment.
Stupa
A tiered tower or mound like structure that is sometimes used to contain holy relics .
Shrine
A statue dedicated to the Buddha.
Buddha rupa
Where the statue of the Buddha sits cross legged in a meditation pose, they prove a focal point for Buddhists to meditate and focus.
Study hall
Ancient books of his sermons and model of the wheel of life
Meeting hall
Charity functions, weddings, funerals etc. Helps monks and use it as a celebration venue.
What do monasteries have?
Often have a stupa: a tower which contains holy relics. May walk in a clockwise direction around the stupa chanting mantras.
What is a monastery?
Where a community of monks/nuns live a simple, disciplined life of study and meditation.
