the structure of the nervous system Flashcards
what are the two parts of the nervous system ?
central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS)
what does the central nervous system consist of ?
brain and spinal cord
what is the CNS job
process information and coordinate a response
what does the PNS do ?
connects CNS to the organs , skin and limbs , carries sensory and motor info to and from the CNS ,regulates involuntary body functions
what does the PNS consist of ?
the somatic nervous system and the autonomic nervous system
what does the somatic nervous system do ?
carries motor and sensory info to nervous system ,voluntary control .
what does the autonomic nervous system do ?
unconsious , involuntary actions and regulates bodily functions .
what does the autonomic nervous system consist off ?
the sympathetic and the parasympathetic nervous system
what does the sympathetic nervous system do ?
fight or flight response
dilates pupils to enhance vision
increases heart rate
increases bp
increases blood flow
reduced digestion
relaxes bladder
stimulate adrenal gland
what does the parasympathetic nervous system do ?
rest and digest response
constricts pupils
decreases heart rate
decrease bp
decreases blood flow
restart digestion
contracts bladder
