The Structure of the Genome Flashcards
1
Q
What is the genome?
A
The genome of an organism is its entire hereditary information encoded in DNA. It is made up of genes and other DNA sequences that do not code for proteins.
2
Q
What does the eukaryotic genome mostly consist of?
A
Non-coding sequences
3
Q
What are DNA sequences that code for proteins defined as?
A
Genes
4
Q
What do other sequences that do not code for proteins do?
A
They either regulate transcription or are transcribed but never translated. tRNA and rRNA are non-translated forms of RNA.
