Q

What are glycolipids and where are they located?

A

Glycolipids are lipids with a carbohydrate attached by a glycosidic (covalent bond). They are located on the outer surface of a cell membrane. The sugar group (carbohydrate) is called the glycone while the non-sugar group (lipid)

Q

What are glycoproteins and where are they located?

A

A glycoproteins is a protein that consists of a carbohydrate and a protein. Glycoproteins are found on the lipid bilayer of the cell membrane. There are bonded by a glycosidic (covalent bond). The sugar group (carbohydrate) is the glycone while the non-sugar group (protein) is the aglycone.
