interactions by various political entities but mostly states. Nowadays, the system is global.

Other indiviuduals or groups that are politically active but not necessarily recognized officially.
The state in international law
=> primary actor we study in international relations are states
=> countries, nation-state
elements of a state
territorial unit,
control over military for defense,
economic control such as power to print money, trade restrictions, power to tax, administered by a governmental bureaucracy.
+ require legitimacy with their people
states generally have monopoly to use force in legitimate sociaties+ have monopoly to use force in legitimate society
what are the key elements of the sovereignty
- state recognized each others in the international system
- all state are legally equal
- recognition by ohter states that a staet may manage its internal affairs how it pleases
probelms of sovereignty
its a legal definition that is not always really realistic + does not mean that states can prevent alll crime, injustcie + inequality between state
Difference btwn nation and state
nation = group of people who feel they have something in common + share single perception of history, religion, traditions, symbols and myths
State= can have more than one nation like Iraq+ some nations have no state (palestinians)
