THE STANDARD MODEL Flashcards
What do exchange particles carry/transfer?
Momentum
Energy
Force
Charge (only weak interactions)
Give the four fundamental forces and their corresponding exchange particles increasing strength.
Gravitational - graviton.
Electromagnetic - virtual photon.
Weak - W particle.
Strong nuclear- pion
What are Feynman Diagrams used for?
Used to visualise the interactions between particles.
Will have to Memorise the four feynman diagrams separately.
What are HADRONS?
Class of particle that ‘feel’ the strong force.
What are BARYONS?
A Hardron that is made up of three quarks or anti quarks in the form of ANTIBARYONS.
What are MESONS?
Type of Baryon that is made up of a quark anti-quark pair.
We have the pion made up of u and d quarks.
We have the kaon which has strangeness.
What are Leptons?
Type of particle that does not ‘feel’ the strong force.
Have the electron and muon.
Describe what the Conservation Rules are?
In any interaction the following properties are always conserved.
Charge.
Baryon Number.
Lepton Number.
