Q

what is the myelin sheath?

A
  • the fatty substances that surrounds the axon to protect the nerve fibres
  • helps speed up the rate of transmissions = the electrical impulse can jimp from one node (of ranvier) to the next
  • prevents the loss of ions
  • helps maintain electrochemical gradient
