The opening at the center of the iris, that grows smaller or larger as the iris contracts or relaxes. It regulates the amount of light that enters the eye
Pupil
A common eye disorder that develops with age and causes a person to have difficulty seeing objects close up
Presbyopia
The inner layer of the eye, containing light sensing nerve cells
Retina
Receptors cells in the retina that are sensitive to light, but cannot distinguish color. They help you to see in dim light
Rods
The tough, outermost layer of the eye, also called “white” of the eye. It covers all except the front of the eye , and light cannot pass the through it
Sclera
Structures in the inner ear that help a person maintain balance
Semicircular canals
Hearing loss in which the damage lies in the inner ear, the acoustic nerve, or both. It is also called “nerve deafness, and is the most common from of hearing loss
Sensorineural hearing loss
A condition in which the two eyes do not focus in the same direction when a person is looking at a distant object. Also called “cross-eyed”
Strabismus
Sense organs found primarily on the top surface of the tongue that provide information about the food being eaten
Taste buds
A abnormal ringing in the ear
Tinnitus
A fibrous partition located at the inner end of the ear canal, and separating the outer ear from the middle ear, it is also called the eardrum
Tympanic membrane
The jelly like substance that fills the part of the eye behind the lens, and helps the eye keep its shape
Vitreous humor
