Who were the Spartacus league?
A communist group set up by Rosa Luxembourg and Karl liebknecht
Why did they want a revolution?
They did not trust the government and thought they wouldn’t improve the lives of the working people
What did they do in Berlin?
They took over the governments newspaper and telegraph headquarters
What did they do throughout 1919?
Began protesting and hoping people would join in and take over other buildings
Who did the government call up to fight the communists?
The army was helped by the Freikorps - who were anti communist
Who won?
The army/freikorps killed over 100 workers
Was it a success?
The Spartacists planned the uprising poorly and didn’t get any help from other left wing groups
What happened to Rosa Luxemburg?
She was captured, shot and dumped into the Berlin canal
What happened to Karl Liebknecht?
He too was murdered
