Who are the main characters ?
Danny, Jack, Wendy, Halloran, Grady and the Grady Girls
What is Jack doing to Danny and why ?
Jack is abusing Danny sexual and physically and Wendy chooses not to notice it, this is because Kubrick is putting the message of mans inhumanity to man and how nobody thinks any different to fathers abusing their children and the point also makes out that when Danny is older he will automatically think that it is right to abuse your children therefore he will be an abusive father. this is the cycle of violence.
What are the main symbolism messages that Kubrick puts out ?
how everybody overlooked the genocide of the native Americans and how nobody questioned it, this shows how it is normal for people to be abusive. Kubrick’s message makes you realise that its not just abuse its racism, sexism and homophobia as well and how everybody over looks all the discrimination in the world.
what are some examples of the uncanny ?
the hotel - empty
the family - abusive and violent
the imaginary friend (Tony) - creepy and weird
what is the uncanny ?
when something is familiar but not at the same time, making you feel uncomfortably strange or uncomfortably familiar with it.
what is the main scene or sequence that creates an uncanny feeling, and why ?
The Grady Girls scene because you feel like its a safe situation at first due to a well lit corridor but as soon as the girls speak in unison you realise that its a bad situation for Danny

Where is the film set?
In a hotel in the Colorado mountains called the overlook hotel
Who kills Jack and why?
Danny kills jack because he thinks it’s the only option to escape the violent father that Danny sees on a daily basis. Tony makes Danny think that killing Jack is his only option which shows Danny stepping into the cycle of violence
What does Wendy do about the abuse?
Wendy acts like its not happening because she doesn’t want to expose the truth to herself about the abuse happening within her family.
