It did not reduce unemployment enough and increased the role of the government.
What was the WPA?
Works Progress Administration to fund building schools, hospitals and create employment. Oversees $4.8billion relief programme.
Provided 8million jobs.
What was the significance of the National Labour Relations Act?
Upheld labour rights and increased trade union members to 9million in 1939.
Set up National Labour Relations Board to act against unfair employers.
What was the Social Security Act?
1935- established pensions for the elderly, paid for by the taxes.
Established unemployment benefits.
What were the 2 Reform acts?
> Securities act- eliminated fraud on stock market.
>Banking act- banned banks from investing savings on the stock market.
What other things did Roosevelt do?
He did the weekly Fireside Chats which instilled hope in the people who had access to a radio and they believed things will get better.
