Why did Roosevelt win?
FDR created optimism and wanted to aid the unemployed.
He criticised the Republican way of non intervention, especially Hoover.
What were the Three Rs
Relief- to assist the poor
Recovery- to boost the economy
Reform- to create a welfare state and to prevent another depression.
When was the Hundred Days?
9th of March to 16th June 1933 where Congress met every day.
What was the EBA
Emergency Banking Act- to provide protection to investors and restore confidence to the banking system.
What is the FERA
Federal Emergency Relief Administration - $500million for the unemployed but it was only temporary as Roosevelt did not want people to think he was handing out money for free.
What was the NRA
National Recovery Administration - set fair prices and minimum wage and working conditions.
Established by the National Industrial Recovery Act.
What is the CCC?
Civilian Conservation Corps - men between 18 & 25 were offered employment and by WWII, more than 2 million men were offered work.
What is the TVA?
The Tennessee Valley area was developed with dams built to generate electricity and prevent flooding. It still exist to today.
What is the AAA?
Agricultural Adjustment Act - increased prices of crops by killing animals and ploughing crops.
What was the PWA?
Public Works Administration - $3.3billion were spent to build public works like schools, hospitals and bridges.
The RFC
Hoover’s Reconstruction Finance Corporation was kept alive with an extra $15billion pumped in y FDR.
