the seasons review Flashcards
what causes the seasons
the tilt of the earths axis
as the earth orbits the sun the axis is always pointing at what
the north star
for part of the year the northern hemisphere is pointed more towards the earth what does that mean for the opposite part of the year
That the southern part is closer to the sun
if the southern hemisphere is pointed more towards the sun does this mean that it is closer to the sun
no because it doesn’t matter about the distance it matter about the angle of where the sun hits
what happens when the sun is directly overhead in the sky
the heat is more intense
there are longer periods of sun when the hemisphere is pointed where
more towards the sun
what happens to the sun as we get closer to the equator
the sun will rise and fall steeper
a planet with no tilt will have
no change between the seasons
A planet tilted on its side will have
the coldest possible winters and the hottest possible summers
what is a equinox
2 days during the year when the length in day are equal
what is the name of equinox during the spring
vernal equinox
what is the name of the equinox during autumn

what is the summer solstice
one day of year when the days are longest
what is the winter solstice

equinoxes, solstices, and seasons are always opposite in what
the two hemispheres
