What was the scientific revolution?
A period of time where a bunch of discoveries were made which affected the way people’s view politicly and socially along with their view on the world
What was the SR time period?
1543-1687
Who and when did the SR starts?
It started in 1543 after copernicus’ book was published
Who and when did the SR end?
It ended in 1687 after newton publish principia (principal of natural laws)
Who was Emilie de Chantelet?
she was a famous scientist who was famous for her french translations and comments on newtons work which helped clarify and promote his work
Were all ideas of the SR from Europe?
No, in fact a lot of ideas were from places outside of Europe such as the Middle East and China where a lot of SR ideas have a base of their ideas and they played an important part in ancient text translations
How did the ideas spread?
The Columbian exchange
Why was the revolution, revolutionary?
Because many new “truths” was revelad to the world. Another reason was the scale of it, it spread due to the columbian exchange and the amonut of ideas and experiments was what made it count
How did the SR enforce gender?
The SR enforced gender because science turned into an actual occupation and turned into something that was harder to participate in as a women. Women were considered too emotional and unscientific
How did SR enforce ideas of race
scientists started classifying plants and animals into groups and did the same with humans according to skin colo. this idea developed more in the 18th and 19th century and was used to justify imperialisms and slavery
Did the SR lead to the Industrial Rev?
Yes. The IR wouldn’t have made it without the SR.
what is a paradox?
When an old way of thinking is replaced by a new way of thinking
What was the most important difference between the Academy of Science in Paris and the London Academy of Science?
The London Academy did not pay their scientists while the Academy in Paris did.
